THE UNREALITY

Take me back to the third world
where lives still make sense,
or to the second world
where things are still negotiable.

Here the unreality
is a manufactured thing
that falls apart and leaves you wondering
who’s shooting this movie, and why.
If you’re corrupted you’re easier
to convince, degraded and you’ll do
anything. Imagine once
having been brought up with a code of nobility.
But then the first world went into overdrive
in an attempt to steal everyone’s money,
and then it seemed the thing to do
to steal everything else while they were at it.

I feel sorry for the damned
standing in their mega-churches
thinking they’ve been saved.
It’s only the stragglers
who still have even got
the ghost of a chance.
